What is holistic psychotherapy and counselling?

In case you’re wondering who this type of therapy is for or what it is about, here is some information that will hopefully make it clearer.  If you still have questions, please feel very welcome to reach out to me via phone or email and I will try my best to provide the specific information you are looking for.

First, let’s break down the individual words:

Holistic

A holistic approach means that all aspects of your life are taken into consideration.  You are a whole person who is made up of a physical body, emotions, relationship, thoughts and feelings, soul and spirit.  All these aspects are interconnected and when something is out of whack it can affect the whole system.

psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach that dives deep below the surface and is concerned with getting to the source of a problem rather than simply managing the symptoms.  Psychotherapy can be a one-off session but people generally benefit from a longer-term commitment which aims to support you in your healing and making sense of your past and current challenges.  Psychotherapy can be a very effective treatment for a wide range of problems, challenges or mental health issues.

counselling

All therapy sessions include the counselling skills of active and deep listening, empathy and compassion, reflection of feelings, unconditional positive regard, non-judgement, confidentiality and respect.

I truly recognise the courage it takes to face up to what is going on for you and to take the step to reach out for support.  If I believe that I am not the most suitable person to provide your support I will work with you to refer you to someone who can best meet your needs.

in summary…

I trust that you have come to me for a reason and I will stand alongside you as we explore your inner and outer world, working with the source of the challenge and facilitate long-term healing.  We work at your pace and I am led by your individual process and unique needs.  I am also a believer in working collaboratively with other practitioners and specialists in their field so if you would like assistance in building your holistic support network I can make suitable recommendations and referrals.
