Giving birth to a baby is an utterly transformative experience.  Not only are you becoming a parent for the first (or maybe second, third, fourth etc) time, but your body has performed an utterly mind-blowing job of becoming pregnant, then growing and birthing a baby.  You go into the birth as a pregnant woman and emerge from it as a Mother. Wow! 

In our modern-day society, there is a lot of emphasis on the physical act of giving birth and the emotional, psychological and spiritual aspects of this rite of passage are often diminished, if not completely ignored.  We know that women who are supported in a holistic, multi-dimensional way, are more likely to have better outcomes than those who are not. 

What is a Birth Debrief and who is it for?

Whether you have had the birthing experience of your dreams or something that went in a totally different direction than you had planned or imagined, having a space to share your story can be of the utmost value.  Sharing the birth story can help you process and ground this experience and the transition to parenthood.  This is of equal importance whether this if your first or fifth birth as every birthing experience is utterly unique.  There is also no ‘perfect’ time to book a Birth Debrief.  You may have given birth last week or 30 years ago.  If there is anything left unexplored it may well be there waiting for this moment of reflection.    

The opportunity to reflect on your birth (Birth Debrief), is especially supportive and helpful if you have had a frightening or traumatic experience.  The process of giving birth is not only a physiological experience.  It is a holistic process that involves body, mind, soul and spirit.  Giving birth can very often bring up repressed or unconscious memories, big emotions and fears, or unresolved issues as you step into the next phase of your feminine journey.  I can support you emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. 

What Happens During a Birth Debrief?

The Birth Debrief session starts with you in the here and now.  How are you doing?  What do you need right now to feel most comfortable and safe?  I will provide a relaxing and calm space to enable you to sink in to a place where you can focus on you and your needs.  The session will go at your pace and be tailored to your requirements. 

We will usually start with you sharing your birthing story.  This is an opportunity to slow it down, to really feel into what you are saying and notice details you may have missed, but need to be acknowledged, as you have been swept into the flurry of newborn life. 

A Birth Debrief session may be a one-off share the story session or it may uncover other aspects of you that could benefit from further work which I can also support you with during follow up appointments. 

When other disciplines of support may be beneficial, I am able to refer you to other wonderful practitioners who specialise in this space such as Women’s Health Physio, Pre & Post Natal Personal Training, Clinical Nutrition and Chiropractic.
